The Other Art Fair
Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who came and said hello to me at The Other Art Fair in London. I was thoroughly enjoying talking to everyone, some of the 12 000, that visited the fair! Being there was inspiring and, I must admit, educational as the feedback and conversations had taught me a lot about how my photographs read and can be interpreted. THANK YOU for sharing your views with me!
The fair also provided me with some interesting reviews in the media; my work spanning from being described as 'witty self-portraits' by the Financial Times to 'grotesque and disgusting' by a printed newspaper in Norway. This shows that by challenging well established conventional ideas and confronting traditional views of one of society's sentimental pillars such as motherhood, which my project 'You are to me what I was to her' (2011) can be said to be doing, you are stepping into something of an artistic mine field and your work is suddenly seen as being very controversial. Personally I think this underlines the fact that there is a great need for doing just that. For that reason I love and recommend the current exhibition at the Photographer's Gallery in London, 'Home Truths', which takes a close look at this topic.
Others that liked and shared my work in their reviews:
Apollo Int Art Magazine , Volt Magazine, OneStopArts, Billetto London, RadioLab London, 9thArtWave
If you are in Norway, my work is currently part of the regional contemporary art exhibition 'Trøndelags Utstillingen' and the next venue up is Oppdal Cultural House, exhibition opening the 28th of October, before it travels to Nord-Trøndelag Art Museum the 11th of January 2014.
On the 25th of November I've been invited to hold a talk about my work at Cyan Gallery in Oslo.
Hope to see you there!
